How One Builder Drove Long-Term Success with Unwavering Client Focus

In 1977, Brad Lundberg had a vision to start a home design and building firm in Stevensville, Maryland that focused on exceptional client service. However, like many small businesses, he needed help starting out and borrowed $1,000 from his father to turn his dream into reality.

“I would take my father around with me to the job sites, and people would hand him the plans assuming that he was the one who had been a contractor all his life and I was just tagging along,” Lundberg said.

There’s no mistake about who Brad Lundberg is now. He is recognized throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Annapolis and the Washington, D.C., metro area as a premier home builder and remodeler. His custom homes and historic renovations are regularly featured in local and national media for their excellence. He has also received numerous home and design, and reader-nominated awards for many years running.

Lundberg’s success over the years has come from an unwavering focus on his clients’ needs. He was one of the first in the region to create extra value with in-house architectural design. He also added remodel, renovation and handyman services to expand his exceptional craftsmanship and customer service offerings for clients with large and small projects alike. He takes great pride in his company being accessible and in the service of all people, whether they want to build a new mansion, a humble but beautifully constructed bungalow, or need a deck repair.

In addition to offering a full suite of services, Lundberg focuses on creating positive experiences with his customers by recommending quality, long-lasting building products. For exterior siding, he recommends James Hardie® siding and trim products because of their durability and performance.

“We’ve used Hardie siding for a long time,” he said. “It was a huge plus for the whole market.”

Earlier in his career, Lundberg had “headaches” with exterior products made of vinyl, hardboard, and wood.

“Paints and stains these days just don’t protect like they used to,” he explains. “And the grade of lumber is not as good as it used to be. When we do a wood house, we see that it’s gorgeous when we’re finished and five years later it’s looking a little ratty and needs to be updated. The houses we do with Hardie continue to look great year after year.”

Lundberg believes in the product so much that he even clad his own home in HardiePanel® vertical siding in a board-and-batten look.

Lundberg’s commitment to “A Better Building Experience” for homeowners has paid off. For eight consecutive years, the readers of What’s Up? Eastern Shore magazine have voted his company as having the best remodeling, design and custom building services in the region. His reputation and commitment to client service has built a nearly self-filling pipeline of referrals and repeat clients.

“Once they trust you, you’re in,” he said. “But earning that trust doesn’t come easy. It takes hard work, dedication to quality work, and a commitment to getting the job done right the first time.”

Lundberg is equally dedicated to strengthening his local community as he is on building his business. Over the years, he founded the local chapter of Rotary International, which raises funds for educational opportunities (including community college scholarships, international high school exchange programs, dictionaries for elementary school children, school supplies for needy students), and community non-profits for homeless, disadvantaged and special needs children, as well as victims of domestic violence.

He’s also a 30-year member of the Boy Scouts and mentors Eagle Scouts in four surrounding counties.

While community involvement is good for business, it goes deeper than that for Lundberg – it’s just the right thing to do.

“We get our business from the community. We should be giving back to the community,” he said.
